Watercolors

Commissions
I have done many different types of watercolors and pastels. If there is a particular image or combinations you are interested in, please email me your wants.

It would be my pleasure to send you a PDF file of a watercolor I have done that is exactly what you are looking for or at least something similar. I will be adding to my sample page periodically, so please check back often.

Your referrals of my site are very much appreciated, and I thank you in advance for sharing my art with your family, friends, and co-workers.

OK - Let’s Get Started -- When you call me to discuss your painting, we can estimate what the cost may be depending on size and the number of subjects or complexities. Once I receive your pictures and the down payment I will call you to discuss your painting and give you an accurate cost. If there is any change its cost will be adjusted when finished.

I do a simple line sketch for your approval of the composition and arrangement with any changes or additions you wanted, including additional subject matter or deletions per your instructions and email this to you. With your OK, I then begin your artwork. Depending on commissioning workload, this could take approximately 3 to 6 weeks. When I am finished with your painting, I will scan it and email to you for your approval. If any small adjustments are needed, they can usually be done without trouble or any additional cost. If you need it faster for a special event, call me and we will discuss. Most likely I can deliver with no problem or additional cost.

The Materials of your watercolor. I work on very heavy, acid-free illustration board with professional watercolor paints. I apply a base medium that allows me to continually work the surface and change features not ordinarily done with traditional watercolor techniques. On final approval from you, I apply a fixative that waterproofs, seals, and helps UV protect your watercolor.

My styleis a little more stylized and loose in appearance than most traditional methods. I feel that this gives a more artistic touch and looks fresh and not overworked. My goal is to capture a moment in a way that your painting will make you smile everyday.

Be Sure -- Please review my samples carefully to see how I work from the original photos. This will give you an idea of what to expect as far as the style, detail, coloring, and quality. If you have any concerns, please do not place a commission. Once work is begun your down payment is non-refundable. This is why the approval process via online is so important.

First Step I always start with a pencil image base and apply the watercolor over that. Usually the light pencil lines are not seen, but occasionally they still may be visible. These are not any distraction to the completed work and sometimes it adds to the light flavor of the image. I try to capture a likeness and a sense of personality. Remember, this is art and not photo reproduction.
Take a LOOK! -- When I am finished I will contact you in order to view your artwork online. Usually, customers are satisfied with this first preview, but if there is something minor you would like to alter, I will make the change and resend via email until you are satisfied. On your final approval the remaining balance is due. I will then arrange with you for shipping or delivery.

Your artwork along with all your photos you provided will be shipped in a sturdy flat cardboard package. Proper insurance against damage will be taken out. I always ship ground with a tracking number available. Rush deliveries are available upon request. Receipt of final payment in full is required prior to shipping. Make checks payable to Delton Gerdes.
